At least five shots were fired at the actor’s car in Juhu. Police say no bullet hit him, but he has minor injuries from gunpowder and broken glass. His driver was shot in the hand.

Gunmen fired at Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff’s car in Mumbai on Sunday evening, October 18. The actor escaped the bullets, but two other people were hurt, including his driver.

The attack happened at about 7 p.m. in Juhu, a wealthy seaside area in western Mumbai where many film stars live. Shroff was driving away from a football club when unidentified attackers opened fire, Deputy Commissioner of Police Mohit Garg said, ANI reported.

“Actor Tiger Shroff is safe and has not sustained any gunshot injuries,” Mumbai Police said in a statement, according to ANI.

Shroff, 36, is one of India’s best-known action stars, famous for films such as Heropanti and the Baaghi series. He is the son of veteran actor Jackie Shroff.

The shooting has frightened Mumbai’s film industry. It is the latest in a string of attacks on well-known people in the city, and police have not yet said who is behind it or why.

Not shot, but hurt

Police said Shroff “narrowly escaped injury” and was not hit by any bullet.

But he did not walk away untouched. Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister, Eknath Shinde, visited the family home late on Sunday night. He said the actor “has injuries on his left hand caused by gunpowder and shards of glass.” Bullets had broken the car’s windows.

Photos taken during the visit showed Shroff with dressings on his chest and shoulder and a bandage on his arm, ANI reported. His mother, Ayesha Shroff, was with him.

“This is a major incident,” Shinde said. “Five rounds were fired, but fortunately, he was safe.”

Two others injured

Shroff’s driver, Firdous, was shot in the left hand. A second person was also injured and taken to hospital, police said. Police have not shared the second person’s name or the exact condition of either of the injured.

Police have taken a statement from the driver. As one of the people closest to the shooting, his account is likely to be important to the investigation.

Police case: attempted murder

Mumbai Police have filed a case against three unidentified people, ANI reported.

The case uses two laws. Under India’s new criminal code, the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, police have used the section for attempted murder, along with a section that applies when several people act together for a shared aim. They have also used the Arms Act, which covers carrying and using illegal guns.

In simple words, police are treating this as a planned attempt to kill, not a random act.

What police are doing

Mumbai Police have formed 15 teams to find the attackers. The city’s Crime Branch, which handles serious and organised crime, has joined the search. Officers are checking CCTV footage from Juhu and nearby roads.

Police have not said how the attackers reached the spot or how they escaped. Some reports say they came on a motorcycle, but police have not confirmed this. Police had not announced any arrests by Monday afternoon.

Union Minister Piyush Goyal, an MP from Mumbai, said: “Police will take action, accused will be arrested,” ANI reported.

Who was behind it?

That is not yet known.

Posts on social media claimed responsibility for the attack. Some reports linked them to a gang run by Lawrence Bishnoi, a gangster who is in jail. His gang has been named by police in several earlier crimes in India.

But police have not confirmed that these posts are real, or that any gang carried out this attack. The Lion Capital is not treating the claim as fact.

Fear in the film industry

The All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA), a union of film workers, said Shroff could have lost his life.

“Today it is Tiger Shroff. Who is next?” the union said. It said gangsters “want to terrorise Bollywood personalities and extort money from them,” ANI reported.

The union listed earlier attacks: shots fired outside superstar Salman Khan’s home in Bandra, a knife attack on actor Saif Ali Khan at his home, shots fired outside director Rohit Shetty’s house in Juhu, and repeated attacks on comedian Kapil Sharma’s cafe.

It sent five demands to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who also serves as Maharashtra’s home minister and is in charge of the police. It asked him to arrest the shooters and anyone who ordered the attack, break up extortion networks, protect film workers and their families, and hold officials responsible for failing to stop such attacks.

“Bollywood needs real protection,” the union said.

Shinde promised action. “No form of threat will be tolerated,” he said. “These attempts to intimidate people will not be tolerated, and we will put an end to this hooliganism.”

What The Lion Capital asked

The Lion Capital sent questions to Mumbai Police on Monday, by direct message and in a public post on X. We asked whether anyone has been detained or arrested, including in Rajasthan, where some reports say suspects were held. We also asked whether police have checked the social media posts claiming the attack, how many shots were fired, and how the attackers escaped.

Mumbai Police had not responded by the time of publication.

We also contacted Tiger Shroff’s team for comment. His team had not responded by the time of publication.

What happens next

Police are searching for the three attackers and studying CCTV footage and evidence from the scene. They have not yet said what the motive was. The Lion Capital will update this story when police confirm arrests or say who was behind the attack.
