A Class 2 student at a Balrampur school collapsed during class while a Ganesh immersion procession with loud DJ music was passing nearby. Her family has linked the incident to the sound, but the cause of death has not been established and police are investigating.
What Happened at the Balrampur School?
On Monday, September 21, a Class 2 student at a private school in Balrampur town, Uttar Pradesh, fell unconscious in her classroom during class. Her teachers rushed her to a hospital, where doctors declared her dead, according to PTI.
The girl was reported to be seven years old. Because she is a child, this article does not name her, her family or her school.
The Procession Outside the School
At the time, a Ganesh idol immersion procession was passing near the school, with loud music playing on a DJ sound system.
It is important to be clear about what is known. The girl collapsed while the procession was passing nearby. It has not been shown that she collapsed because of it.
What the Family Says
The girl’s family has blamed the loud music. They say the sound from the DJ system caused her to fall ill, PTI reported.
This is the family’s claim. It is not a medical finding.
What the CCTV Shows
A CCTV recording from the school has surfaced online. According to PTI, it purportedly shows the incident: the girl losing consciousness and collapsing in her seat during class.
This article does not share the footage or any images of the child.
What Police Are Investigating
Police say the exact cause of death has not yet been established. Balrampur Circle Officer (City) Abhishek Singh said police had received information about the girl’s death and were investigating the matter, according to PTI.
The Medical Cause Remains Unclear
This is the most important point in the story.
What we know: A young girl collapsed in her classroom and died after being taken to hospital.
What we don’t know: Why she died. It has not been medically shown that the loud music caused her death. It has also not been shown that she suffered a heart problem, or that any heart problem was caused by the sound.
When a young child collapses suddenly, there can be many possible medical reasons. Only a proper medical examination can say what happened. Until then, any link to the music remains a claim, not a fact.
Noise Near Schools: What the Rules Say
India already has rules on noise. Under the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000, the area around schools, hospitals and courts can be declared a “silence zone.” That zone covers at least 100 metres around the building, and noise limits there are the strictest of any kind of area.
The rules also limit the use of loudspeakers and sound systems, especially at night.
The bigger question is enforcement. Loud DJ systems are common at festival processions across many parts of India, including near schools during school hours.
Why the Incident Has Raised Concern
The girl’s death has caused anger in Balrampur. Several social, political and religious groups have demanded limits on loudspeakers and DJ systems during processions and festivals.
After a meeting of these groups, the local municipal council chairman, Dhirendra Pratap Singh, said DJs would be completely banned in the municipal area during upcoming festivals. “No DJ will be allowed to enter the municipal area,” he said, according to PTI. He added that representatives would meet the district magistrate on Wednesday to ask for a complete ban.
That local response is about noise rules in general. It is separate from the question of what caused this child’s death, which is still unanswered.
What Happens Next?
- The police investigation into the circumstances of the death

- Police examination of the CCTV footage
